The Science Behind the Pan

Why Hybrid
Technology?

Every hexagon is a promise — the promise of a Michelin-star sear without the Michelin-star cleanup. Here is the engineering that makes it possible.

01 — Best of Both Worlds

The Sear of Steel. The Release of Non-Stick.

For decades, home cooks have faced an impossible choice: use a stainless steel pan for a restaurant-quality sear, or use a non-stick pan for easy food release and cleanup. Stainless steel builds the Maillard reaction — the chemical browning that creates complex, caramelised flavours — but food sticks aggressively. Non-stick pans release everything with ease, but destroy those precious caramelised bits.

Gordon Ramsay Cookware, built on HexClad's patented hybrid technology, eliminates this compromise entirely. The cooking surface uses a precision laser-etching process to create thousands of raised stainless steel hexagonal peaks surrounded by recessed non-stick valleys. The result is a surface that performs both functions simultaneously — in the same pan, on the same cook.

Stainless Performance

The Perfect Sear

Raised stainless peaks make direct contact with food, reaching temperatures that trigger the Maillard reaction for deep, professional-grade browning. The same caramelised crust Gordon achieves in a Michelin-star kitchen.

Non-Stick Convenience

Effortless Release

Recessed PFOA-free non-stick valleys cradle delicate proteins and eggs, ensuring nothing sticks. Cook scrambled eggs and a ribeye in the same pan — wash both off with a single wipe.

02 — The Hexagonal Science

How the Hex
Is Made

01

Laser Precision Etching

A computer-controlled laser etches the exact hexagonal grid pattern into the raw stainless steel cooking surface. Every peak and valley is machined to micron-level precision — no two hexagons are inconsistent. This process cannot be replicated by stamping or casting, which is why it is patented.

02

Non-Stick Valley Application

PFOA-free, food-grade non-stick coating is applied exclusively into the recessed hexagonal valleys. Because the coating is sheltered below the raised stainless peaks, it never contacts the high-heat searing surface or metal utensils directly — dramatically extending its lifespan compared to traditional flat non-stick pans.

03

Stainless Peak Activation

The raised stainless steel hexagonal peaks stand proud of the non-stick valleys. When food meets the surface, it contacts only the hot stainless peaks. Heat transfers at full efficiency, the Maillard reaction activates, and a perfect crust forms. Then, when you lift the food, the non-stick valleys provide the release.

03 — Durability

Built to Last a
Lifetime

The average non-stick pan lasts 1–3 years before the coating degrades, scratches through, or begins to flake. Gordon Ramsay Cookware was engineered to solve this problem permanently. The patented hexagonal guard system means the non-stick coating is never the pan's most exposed surface — the stainless steel peaks take every impact, every utensil, every scrub.

In independent durability tests, the hybrid surface has demonstrated scratch resistance more than ten times greater than conventional flat non-stick coatings. The surface you cook on year five looks the same as year one.

Metal Utensil Safe

The recessed non-stick valleys sit below the protective stainless steel peaks, shielded from direct contact with metal spatulas, tongs, and whisks. Use any utensil without fear — the surface is engineered for it.

Scratch-Resistant Surface

Traditional non-stick coatings degrade with every scratch. Because the coating in Gordon Ramsay's hybrid pans is protected by the raised hex grid, it maintains its release properties far longer — even with daily, heavy-duty professional-style cooking.

Lifetime Warranty

Every Gordon Ramsay Cookware piece is backed by a lifetime warranty — a direct reflection of the engineering confidence behind the hybrid technology. This is cookware designed to outlast every pan you have ever owned.

Dishwasher Safe

Unlike traditional non-stick pans that degrade in the dishwasher, the hybrid surface withstands repeated machine washing. The stainless steel hex peaks protect the non-stick valleys from the harsh alkaline detergents and high-pressure water jets.

“I have thrown everything at these pans. Metal spatulas, high heat, the dishwasher. They come out looking brand new every time. That is why I only cook with them.”

04 — Heat Distribution

Tri-Ply Construction:
No Hot Spots, Ever

Cheap single-layer pans create hot spots — areas of the cooking surface that are significantly hotter than others. The result is unevenly cooked food: a steak burnt on one side, raw on the other. Tri-ply construction eliminates this fundamental flaw through material science.

Three bonded layers of metal work in concert. The aluminium core disperses heat across the entire pan bottom instantly, while the stainless steel layers provide the structural strength and surface performance that aluminium alone cannot achieve.

1

Inner Stainless Steel Layer

18/10 Surgical Grade

The cooking surface. Laser-etched with the hexagonal hybrid pattern, grade 18/10 stainless steel provides inert, non-reactive food contact. It will never leach metallic flavours into your food, even with acidic ingredients like tomatoes or wine.

2

Aluminium Core

100% Pure Aluminium

The engine of even heat. Pure aluminium conducts heat three times faster than stainless steel and distributes it with complete uniformity from the centre of the pan to the edges. There are no hot spots, no cold zones — only consistent, controlled temperature.

3

Outer Stainless Steel Layer

Grade 430 Magnetic

The exterior shell. The magnetic grade 430 stainless steel outer layer is induction-compatible, making these pans work on every cooktop: gas, electric, ceramic, and induction. It also encases and protects the aluminium core, preventing oxidation.
